Buikwe – 20 February 2019 - The ongoing renovation works of Kawolo Hospital located along the Kampala- Jinja Highway in Buikwe District is near complete standing at a whooping 93%.

The hospital which was built in 1968 has been renovated and installation of equipment complete in some of the facilities which are already in use owing to the high demand from the region.

The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Diana Atwine expressed joy that the renovation works currently undertaken by Excel Construction Company Ltd is on course and moving as scheduled. “I am excited to see this facility take good shape and meet our requirements as a Health sector. The official handover will take place in April 2019” she said.

She added that installation of equipment in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), theatres, emergency department and wards are currently pending. “The theatre has upto three units and we have an accident emergency department which will be equipped with modern equipment like CT scan, ICU to be able to handle any emergency case” she informed.

Atwine noted that the USD 11.8m used in rehabilitation of this facility was initially secured as a debt from the Spanish Government, however, the facility was later donated to the Government of Uganda.

The Permanent Secretary later led the Ministry of Health top management on a tour to Dr. Mukono Health Centre IV to assess the operations of the hub, identify any possible gaps and devise means to address them.
